6 Days With Mawlamyine

Yangon - Bago - Kyaikhtiyo - Mawlamyine - - Yangon

Day 1 Yangon / Arrival

In the morning arrive at Yangon International Airport. Meet with your guide and transfer to hotel for check-in. Then in the afternoon visit Yangon sightseeing including Chaukhtatkyi Pagoda, downtown area, Kandawgyi park and the most famous Shwedagon Pagoda at the sunset time to. Overnight in Yangon.

Day 2Yangon-Bago-Kyaikhtiyo

After breakfast drive to Kyaikhtiyo (appro: 4 hours). On the way visit Bago, an ancient capital of Mon Kingdom in 15th century. Visit Shwe-tha-lyaung reclining Buddha(55 meters long), Shwe maw daw Pagoda, Hinthagone pagoda, 28 metre high huge Buddha image of Kyaikpun pagoda. Then drive to Kyaikhtiyo. Afternoon arrive the Kimpun base camp and take the open truck to go up till Hermit Hill. From Hermit Hill we have to walk up about 1 hour to reach the Kyaikhtiyo Pagoda. Kyaikhtiyo, mystical pagoda stands on a gold gilded boulder, precariously perched on the edge of the hill over 1100 km above sea –level. Overnight at Hotel.

Day 3Kyaikhtiyo-Mawlamyine

After breakfast take the truck to base camp. From base camp drive to Mawlamyine(3 hours). Mawlamyine is the third largest city in Myanmar after Yangon and Mandalay situated 165 kilometers east of the nation's capital across the Gulf of Mottama at the mouth of the Thanlwin river. It is the capital of Mon State with a population of almost 300,000 people. Formerly known as Moulmein, it was once a thriving teak port and the administrative capital of British Lower Burma. Afternoon arrive and check-in hotel. Evening visit Kyaikthanlan pagoda built in 875 AD and thought to be the site from where Rudyard Kipling wrote his famous poem, 'The Road to Mandalay'. Mahamuni pagoda and walking along the strand road.Overnight in Mawlamyine.

Day 4Mawlamyine

Full day of sightseeing in and around Mawlamyine, visit the local market and then continue to famous small town of Mudon (20km -1hour). On the way visit the largest reclining Buddha image in the world, Win Sein Taw Ya, is situated about 20 km south of Mawlamyine on the main road to Mudon. Stop at Kyaukdalone, a Buddhist stupa and a Hindu temple facing each other. and Seindon Mibaya Kyaung, where King Mindon's wife sought refuge. In the evening take a small boat to cross the other side of river and visit Gaung Se island literally means 'head medicine' or shampoo in Myanmar language and 'kyun' means island thus giving rise to its English name of Shampoo Island. It has been given this name from the Ava period when water from a spring on this island was used in the annual royal hair washing ceremony. The island also has a Buddhist meditation centre. Overnight in Mawlamyine.

Day 5Mawlamyine- Hpa an

In the morning after breakfast drive to Hpa-an, the capital city of Kayin State. On the way to Hpa-an visit Kha Yon and Kawkung caves where you can see the full of Buddha images. Arrive Hpa-an and Lunch. Afternoon visit the iconic sights of Mt Zwe Kabin, whose foothills are lined with thousands of identical Buddha statues and the 'Cave of Ten Thousand Buddhas', Kyaukkalat, market and enjoy sunset from Shwe Saryan pagoda just beside the river. Overnight in Hpa-an.

Day 6Hpa an-Yangon

Morning drive to Thaton, on the way visit Bayin Nyi cave and then drive to Thaton, former capital of the Mon Kingdom. Afternoon arrive back Yangon and check-in hotel. Evening relax and overnight in Yangon.
